Looking after yourself and your baby is vital. You need the right care and oodles of comfort to ensure the next nine months are safe and happy – for everyone involved.

Your doctor will refer you for each scan to check everything from the heartbeat of your little bundle, the development of their tiny bodies and to make sure you, mumma, are healthy and managing the sometimes tricky period of pregnancy.

These scans are essential for the health of every pregnancy, and we accept all referrals.

The dating scan

It’s also known as: the viability scan

When you’ll have it: 0-12 weeks

How much it costs: $101, and then a rebate of $50.

Time it takes: 20 minutes

What it will include: medical report and 3 photo prints

Finding out you’re expecting is an exciting time, and having your first ultrasound, seeing those first images – it’s hard to beat those overwhelming tears of happiness. And we don’t just mean from the hormones!

We can accurately tell you how many weeks pregnant you are, when your due date is, how many pregnancies are on board (that is, whether you’re having multiple babies), assess any bleeding and check that everything about your uterus, ovaries and cervix are looking healthy.

The nuchal translucency scan

It’s also known as: the twelve-week scan, the Down Syndrome scan, the safety scan, first trimester screening.

When you’ll have it: 12-13w6d

How much it costs: $209.50, and then a rebate of $59.50. *Extra fee of $30 for gender determination.

Time it takes: 30-40 minutes

What it will include: medical report and 3 photo prints

During this ultrasound we’ll measure the fluid at the back of your baby’s neck and the nasal bone, then send it to a genetic centre. Your GP or obstetrician will refer you for a blood test, which also gets sent to the genetic centre and analysed against your ultrasound. They’ll determine the likelihood of your baby having Down Syndrome and send us back the report (the blood results take about a week). We also do an early anatomy check just to make sure everything is where it’s supposed to be and growing nicely. The extra benefits of the nuchal scan are that you get to see your baby again and, if you book closer to 14 weeks we can tell you with 99% accuracy the gender of your baby.*

The morphology scan

It’s also known as: the twenty-week scan, anomaly, anatomy scan

When you’ll have it: 20-22 weeks

How much it costs: $235, and then a rebate of $85.

Time it takes: 30-40 minutes

What it will include: medical report, complimentary 3D/4D/HD and 3 photo prints

You’re half way through your pregnancy now, and this ultrasound is the big one. We’ll take a look a bub and make sure he or she is growing at the right rate and in the right proportions. We’ll do a full anatomy check, on the lookout for anything that might be missing or in the wrong place.

The heart, brain and spine receive considerable attention as do the arms, legs and facial structure. The environment your baby grows in is equally important, so we also take a look at the cervix, umbilical cord, amniotic fluid and the location and size of the placenta.

Remember that facial structure we mentioned? You’ll also take home complimentary 3D/HD images of that cute button nose and other images we capture during the scan.

The growth scan

It’s also known as: the third trimester scan or the well-being scan

When you’ll have it: anytime, and possibly multiple times, from 22 weeks

How much it costs: $235 and then a rebate of $85.

Time it takes: 40 minutes

What it will include: medical report, complimentary 3D/4D/HD and 3 photo prints

The growth scan is an extra ultrasound requested by your doctor for specific reasons. You might be having multiple babies and we need to check both babies for growth. If you’ve developed gestational diabetes, your doctor will keep a close eye on your baby’s size. And if you’re overweight or have other issues, you may be referred for this scan.

We can check the weight of your baby, look for low-lying placenta, check any structural abnormalities and clarify anything outstanding from the Morphology. This scan is only offered by referral.
